What is it?

Energy generation via solar photovoltaic panels is becoming more and more engrained into the fabric of modern society. Unfortunately it is estimated that only half of energy generated by these P.V systems is used by the generating household. This is due to peak generation times commonly occurring when no-one is home to take advantage of the energy produced, with the energy not used being exported back into the grid. As such, the idea behind battery storage works by reducing a household’s dependence on extracting energy from the grid by storing this excess energy on-site, most commonly in a lithium ion or lead-acid battery in DC form.



How it works?

Battery storage enables a household to make the most out of energy generated by their solar PV system. The concept is simple: during daylight hours energy generated by the PV system which is not being consumed by household appliances is stored in a battery instead of being exported back into the grid. This energy is then released when household demand is high and light levels are low such as early morning and evenings to save you drawing energy from the grid. Only when there is not enough energy generated by the photovoltaic panels or stored in the battery is energy imported from the grid. This, alongside the included energy monitoring systems, as can be seen below help reduce the carbon footprint of a household and reduce electricity bills.
