Solar PV at PJ Taste

When PJ Taste, creator of the famous ‘Sheffield Egg’ and one of Sheffield’s most respected catering

companies opened new premises in Attercliffe, they wanted to develop their sustainability ethos as

much as possible.

Peter Moulam, one of PJ’s partners said ‘We’re a growing business that is committed to sourcing lots

of our produce locally. So we thought why not source our energy locally too. Fortunately we had a

good sized south facing roof ideal for solar photovoltaic panels. We’ve also ordered an electric van

and aim to install heat recovery to turn our waste heat into hot water for washing up.’

‘Solar energy will now contribute to our energy needs day in day out, meaning every Sheffield Egg

we make and every dish we prepare will have had some help from the sun.’

Local Sheffield renewable energy installer Energy Jump completed the installation in the depths of

December. Director Rob Samuelson said ‘PJ Taste are a fantastic innovative local business with a

great ethos. Most importantly they make delicious food – just don’t tell the wife.’

‘Their Award Winning Sheffield Egg, which ranks alongside Hendersons Relish as a unique Sheffield

speciality (for the uninitiated a healthier tastier version of a Scotch egg) is a beauty to behold. We

were delighted to install their solar photovoltaic system which will generate around 9000 kilowatt

hours of clean green energy, every year for 30 years to come.’ He went on ‘They are a growing

number of businesses in Yorkshire and beyond choosing to make their roofspace pay their electricity

bills.’

Peter from PJ continued, “We’re really excited about our new home in Attercliffe where we’ve installed great kitchen facilities. We’ll soon be able to increase the volume of local produce we grow as well having a great space for meetings parties and banquets.”
